Registration Q&A:
Q: How much does it cost?
A: To make tai chi as available as possible, we've switched to a donation-based system. Students pay anywhere from $1-12 per class.
It would take too much time to collect tuition every class, so we ask students to register and pay quarterly.
Simply download the form above, circle the dates you plan to attend (or cross off the ones you know you can't make), and pay an amount you feel is appropriate.
Q: Can I just try out a class without registering?
A: Of course. The first class is always free. However, it usually takes people 6-10 weeks of class before they see real benefits from tai chi.
Q: What's the annual membership fee? Do I have to pay that before I register?
A: No. That's for students who have studied long enough to decide they want to become a member of the international school (at least one quarter). It's a way of giving back to the source of our teaching and supporting the activities of the international school.
Q: Can I pay per class?
A: We discourage this because it does not support the students. Like any exercise program, making the committment up front helps you follow through. If your schedule is so irregular that you can't commit to a certain number of classes each quarter, come talk to us and we'll work something out.
Q: Is there a beginner level class? Intermediate? Advanced?
A: We currently conduct all levels simultaneously by having multiple instructors at each class. We all warm up together, then divide up into groups according to experience level. In 2011, we'd like to grow the school to accomodate multiple classes, but we'll announce those arrangements when they're ready.
Q: Is there a seniors class?
A: We have a lot of experience with senior students. It turns out that what's best for seniors is also best for beginners of all ages: upright stances, repetition, and lots of breaks. So seniors should feel right at home in our Monday night class.
However, if you prefer a class that is specifically geared for seniors, you may want to check out the City Arts "Tai Chi for Everybody" class on Wednesdays, 9:30-10:30 in Studio 305 (same studio as our classes). Call 336-906-9797 or email taichiforeverybody@yahoo.com to register.
Q: Do you offer Daytime classes?
A: Our instructors have day jobs, so we can't offer daytime classes currently. We'd like to, because we know that works better for many groups, especially seniors. If circumstances change to support it, we'd be very happy to hold daytime classes.
You may want to check out the Wednesday 9:30 (above) class, which is taught by an instructor who is not affiliated the the Golden Flower Tai Chi Association.
